It is located in the village of Stranda, along the western shore of the Storfjorden. The church is part of the Stranda parish in the Austre Sunnmøre deanery in the Diocese of Møre. The white, wooden, octagonal church was built in 1838 to replace an older church on the site. There has been a church at this site for centuries.
